Université Laval, Québec, Canada In this article, the authors provide clinical recommendations for addressing issues frequently encountered with gamblers during the course of cognitive treatment. The main clinical topics covered are ambivalence toward abstinence, denial of the gambling problem, lying, and relapse prevention strategies. The authors begin the article with a brief review of the gambling literature, after which they present the case of a 53-year-old gambler to illustrate clinical interventions. Clinical recommendations also are offered.
